12/13/07: We just returned to the ranch tonight from Northern California. Hell on wheels is a good description [for this dog]. I haven't put up a [Christmas] tree yet either because I'm not sure how we're going to keep one up with him in the same room. He is growing like a weed . . . He really does have what we think are some beautiful markings and everything is perfectly even on both sides with them. He is getting quite a bit of gray up both sides behind his front legs up his back which is kind of interesting. He seems to be growing very tall all of a sudden . . . He has been just great, we wouldn't trade him for anything but quite the handful. ~ Sandy
12/14/07: Dakota and I were out and about all day . . . We have migrating Monarch butterflies on the way to Mexico here in our eucalyptus trees. Thousands of them. Dakota chases them and finally caught one. He was so surprised and as you can see he's got that look like “Did I do something wrong. Oops I caught it.” ~ Sandy
12/18/07: Dakota's vet check and shots were today. Everything seems to be well. He is 11 weeks old now, and weighs 25.3 lbs. Does that seem about right to you? The vet thought he should be a little heavier by now and asked to increase his food some and only feed twice a day instead of 3 times. I noticed on one of the dog pages that their vet told them not to give the glucosamine because of rapid growth. What does glucosamine have to do with growth?? I forgot to ask Scott today. I wouldn't think it would have any effect on growth. Dakota has been such a good dog. We are so pleased with him. So far, he is with us every minute of everyday. We do not have his dog run finished at the house yet. I think they are going to finally pour the cement for it the week after Christmas . . . By the way, I finally got the tree up and if you don't dangle ornaments off the bottom limbs he's very good. I think he's out and about with so many bushes and trees everyday he doesn't know the difference with one in the house! ~ Sandy
12/31/07: . . . I have to tell you that Dakota has been the best puppy we have ever had. He is like a grown dog in a puppy body. He just seems to know what's ok and what's not. He just seems to flow with whatever is going on and is no trouble at all. Still has a few tinkle accidents but they are always by the door where he waits to go out and because he doesn't bark sometimes I don't notice where he is in time. He has been in the car on bumpy roads for hours on the ranch and never a peep. We have been on numerous trips between houses (7 hrs) by car and he's great. He is quite the handsome guy and we are extremely happy with him. Sending a few photos, not sure they really show how much he has grown but he seems to look bigger everyday . . . Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR! ~ Sandy
01/19/08: Just a quick picture of Dakota while we were hiking today. He's getting long legs and a long body. I'm also not sure that he is not going to develop a saddle. Is that possible?? He's getting a lot of gray/white coming in around his shoulders and rear. We are headed to the vet Tuesday for his 3rd series puppy shots . . . ~ Sandy
