06/30/08: I figured it was about time for a Dakota update. Things are still going very well. Dakota did not skip a beat when he was neutered and healed very fast and is fine. I still struggle with the decision and all of the confusing information but I think things will go fine . . . He has been and is still such a good dog. He turned 9 months old on the 23rd of this month and he is so well behaved for this age. We have attended dog class twice but with my schedule have only made half of the classes each time so maybe this next session we will be able to make the entire session and be tested. I see on the web site some of the dogs that have passed their obedience classes and I feel like we are so far behind. He does very well with all of the obedience stuff except the puppy in him still wants to jump when someone new pays attention to him. As you know with the size that is not such a good trait!! Dakota did get weighed this week at the vet, so right at 9 months on the 23rd he weighed 102lbs. I think that's about right, isn't it? Will be interesting to see where he goes from here with the neutering.

He loves to play ball. Any ball. His favorite is his basketball. He bats it around the front yard like soccer. One of the pictures shows him catching a ball and he likes Frisbee also. He really still likes squeaker toys but we can't leave those with him when we are not there, he shreds most any toy if your not watching. I have tried what the pet stores call their hardiest toys and he can shred them all very quickly. You may notice the fence in the front yard in some of the pictures. The fence is about 3 feet tall and Dakota has still never thought about jumping over. He puts his paws up on top and I think someday he will just fall over and realize he can get out.

Dakota gets a lot of exercise most days and he never seems to tire out. I have not taken him riding with us yet. I am still not sure about him loose around the horses legs. He still tries to play with the cows which have no interest in him. He still is and always has been a great car rider. I can't believe he doesn't get sick after hours on these bumpy dirt roads but he does not. He had his rattlesnake shot last month and is due for his 1st of 2 booster shots next week. I don't know if you have had any experience with this. Dakota has had no reaction to the shot. Well that is about it for now but as always we can't thank you enough for sending Dakota to us. He has been the best and you do a wonderful job with your dogs and puppies. Thanks. ~ Sandy
